How to register with OFTEC

Helping you be fully prepared for your OFTEC inspection

Whether you’re new to OFTEC and preparing for your first inspection, or getting ready for a routine check of your installation or servicing work, we're here to support you.

Inspections are an important part of being registered under a Competent Person’s Scheme. Our aim is to keep the process clear, straightforward and stress-free, so you know exactly what to expect.

Please read the guidance below. It sets out everything you need to prepare.

Booked your initial on-boarding evaluation?

When you first join OFTEC will need to complete an initial audit of your business practices and technical competency (including that of any registered technicians).

An inspector will arrange a visit within your first three months of joining to meet you, explain how OFTEC works, and to carry out your evaluation. Download our first steps guide below, that shows everything you need to prepare.

Scheduled for your surveillance inspection?

We’ve created a clear audit plan and checklist to help prepare with confidence. It explains the inspection process, what OFTEC will be looking for and exactly what you need to do to be prepared on the day.

Getting it right: Key points from OFTEC inspections

To start, you may find this Fieldrocket Podcast helpful. Hosted by Tulloch Priest featuring a conversation with an OFTEC Inspection Services Manager, they talk about how OFTEC inspections work, why they matter, and what inspectors look for. It also highlights common issues found during routine visits, from heat loss calculations to oil tanks installed too close to boundaries.

A practical listen to help you feel confident, prepared and inspection ready.
